Platform, wireframes and the edit button

There have been a lot of questions about the speed and reliability of the site. The term “tired hamster” was used to describe our current engine. The new site will be on a completely new platform. We are not attempting to patch or build on top of the existing site. This alone will fix many of the speed and usability issues that the site currently has. The platform that we have chosen is already in use at sites with high traffic volume and the results are impressive.

We have spent the last two days steeped in wireframes for features of the new site. The wireframes are simple layouts that show how each page is laid out and details the functionality. It becomes the blueprint of the site that the designers and engineers use to do their job (you can read more about wireframes here). So far, we have reviewed the wireframes for the Forums, Groups, profile and events calendar. As each piece gets signed off on, I can provide more details on the features.

That being said, I will say now that we are bringing back the “edit button” for Forums. This is based on the requests posted to this blog and on the current site.

YAY! How many months are to go on this again?

What is the time frame? Goal Date? Fun stuff like that!!!!

    Thanks,

    Lee

@gfunkerror I can’t give an exact date. Our goal is to have the new site up and running at the beginning of the 09 race season. There is a core set of features of the site that has to be completed before we will launch the site. We will not release the new site until these are rock solid and everything is tested and in place. In our minds, a flawless launch is more important than an exact date.

As we get closer, we will be able to release more information.

Mike: Will the changes that are to be made affect our page setups, as occurred in the original upgrade when IP switched from the Beta phase?

And Thanks for the Edit button back!!

  7. Mike Says:

@Andilee0388 I don’t know how the profile page will be effected just yet. I will write something as soon as I do.

    Branding…there’s that word again…
    Another “Junior-ism…”

So what you’re saying is that you’re somehow going to do a complete DO-OVER on IP? I surely hope that things don’t go CRASH in the night…
(you don’t sleep much, do you?)

You’ll have to forgive me, I’m computer illiterate. Where’s the information to link up to events calendar?
